Café-Hopping in Berlin

Last week I've been to Berlin. The weather was almost unbearable, so hot and steamy....therefore we spent most of the time drinking iced coffee in some lovely cafés. Here are some snapshots of my new favourite cafés in Berlin, which where recommended by Berlin experts...thanks for the good advice!

Café Alpenstück is a café, bakery and restaurant specializing in South German/Austrian food and homemade pastry. The interior design is rustic and Alps-inspired, with white wooden chairs and tables. We enjoyed our delicious Sunday brunch outside with everything the heart could wish for: fresh pretzel, a cheese platter, bircher müsli and homemade bread. Everything absolutely reasonably priced.

Eiffel is rather a restaurant than café, but I went there twice as it was so delicious. I can only recommend it, even if it's not exactly close to Berlin Mitte (centre). The menu is inspired by french and italian cuisine, ranging from basics to more extravagant dishes as grilled scallop on mango- lime chutney and basil sorbet. The ambience is welcoming and especially in summer it's the perfect place to enjoy the sun on their big terrace.

Cafe Oliv is a cute small café in the center of Berlin. The breakfast menu is small but super delicious, freshly made and they offer a big range of pastry as fresh pain au chocolate. A very good and refreshing iced coffee, omlette, sandwich and yogurt with fresh fruits...perfect start in the day....

Barcomi's Deli - I discovered this place coincidently while strolling around in Berlin Mitte, looking for a place in the shadow to sit and relax. It's quite hidden in a courtyard, but you can hear people talking and the clattering of the dishes from away already. Barcomi's offers an amazing assortment of cakes, scones and bagels. A lot of bagels! The menu is very American but offers international food as well. We had a mixed platter with cheese, black bean mouse and some bagels of course...
