If you are looking for a food experience, Yauatcha in Soho is the place to go.
Michelin starred, exciting dim sum restaurant, where traditional Cantonese
food meets modern cuisine. A lot of people probably walk past it, the architecture
is minimalistic with blueish windows, hardly recognizable. But when you
take a step closer you can have look inside and discover Yauatcha's dessert bar.
A colourful counter full of french macaroons and gâteaux, which look like
a piece of art. The atmosphere and the design is very quiet and decent with no frills.
The menu is overwhelming, full of dim sum and other delicacies. It's hard to
decide what to take, but we chose the right things...starting with some
lovely orange and lychee martinins, followed by Lobster and Tobiko Dumplings,
which were super tasty and absolutely recommendable.
Then we got Sesame Prawn Toasts, very delicious. Usually I'm not a big fan of deep
fried food, and I've tried Chinese prawn toasts before in various restaurants, it
never convinced me. But the Yauatcha ones definitely changed my mind, the combination
of the super juicy and fresh prawn together with the golden fried sesame on
the thinly sliced toast....mouth-watering!
Pipa Tofu: the fritters were super light, fluffy and good, but not my favorite
The Crispy Aromatic Duck was rather to my taste. The duck comes with rice crêpes,
cucumber sticks and a delicious hoison sauce. The waiter chopped the duck into
small pieces, ready for the crêpes!
Here we go, my Crispy Duck Crêpe...
The duck was super crisp and tasted absolutely low fat. My favorite dish! The Singapur
fried noodles with squid and prawns were delicious as well, but I was still busy
with garnishing my crêpes.
The dessert was an absolute highlight. Raspberry Délice, a chocolate brownie coated
with raspberry and served with lychee ice cream. That was the perfect 'round off'.
The ice cream was light but still creamy, the brownie was soft and super chocolaty
and the raspberry coast tasted intense and fruity.

All in all, Yauatcha is the perfect restaurant for a special night, like birthday, valentine's and so on, but not a place where you go for a casual dinner or lunch (except you can afford it.)
