Trattoria da Aldo

Yesterday was one of those evenings I love, it was still about 19 °C, bright and everybody was outside. London is just amazing in summer, it is so vibrant. We were looking for a nice restaurant in Soho, but it was impossible to get a table outside, as literally everything was busy. We ended up in a very nice, cosy and traditional Italian trattoria called Trattoria da Aldo. It felt like having dinner in a small village somewhere in Italy. The decor there is very Italian, meaning kitschy, but in a nice way and the menu is full my of Italian favourites from avocado with shrimps, over Spaghetti Trabaccolara to the daily special: Lobster Salad.

First we had some bruschetta, then seafood risotto, which was perfectly oozy and a lobster salad with mixed seafood. I expected a small piece of lobster, some mussels and loads of green salad, that is what you usually get in London. All the more surprising it was that my plate was full of fresh seafood, a half lobster, lots of gambas, mussels and squid. Wow! And it tasted all fresh and delicious with the wine and seafood stock.

For dessert we had a delicious Torta della Nonna and some limoncello, on the house.

Definitely a place where I will go back, friendly staff, good quality and everything is reasonably priced. There should be more of those places in London, where you find authentic reasonably priced food instead of all those chains where the service is bad and you get some overpriced small dishes.
